Directors at Daimler Benz and Chrysler have announced an agreement to adopt English as the preferred language for communications, rather than German, which was another possibility.

As part of the negotiations, directors at Chrysler conceded that English spelling has some room for improvement and have accepted a five-year phase-in plan.

In the first year, "s" will be used instead of the soft "c". Also, the hard "c" will be replased with "k". Not only will this klear up konfusion, but komputers have one less letter.

1. Due to its widespread use on the so-called 'Information Superhighway', and so that growing anti-European sentiments in Britain may be reassured about the importance of Britain's role in the European Union, the European Parliament has taken the unprecedented step of selecting one language - English - to become the preferred common language of the European Union.

2. In order to expedite this process and to speed congruence, the European Parliament has commissioned a feasability study of ways in which communications between departments of member governments can be made more effective. Its main recommendations are summarised below.

А в действительности английский постепенно упрощается. К примеру, форма Past Perfect уже почти всегда заменяется Past Simple. Далее, область применения Present Perfect стремительно сужается: в категории опыта все чаще используется Past Simple. Часто вместо 'there are + plural' говорят 'there is'. Часто используется 'less' вместо 'fewer' с исчисляемыми существительными. Знаки препинания уже упрощены до предела (95% англоговорящих просто не знают, как их использовать). Артикли часто опускаются в коротких сообщениях. Орфографию даже нет смысла комментировать.

Вывод: похоже, английский язык упрощается для иностранцев.

Пожалуй скорее под влиянием иностранцев. ИМХО говорящих на английском иностранцев сейчас больше в мире, чем тех, для кого английский родной.

Кстати говоря, я недавно заметил интересный факт, слушая индийское радио: многие индийцы считают, что "индийский" (усредненный) акцент является не искажением английского/американского, а полноценным вариантом произношения. И, в общем-то, у них есть аргумент: число англоязычных индийцев превышает число каких-нибудь австралийцев.

Вполне возможно. Кстати говоря, я недавно заметил интересный факт, слушая индийское радио: многие индийцы считают, что "индийский" (усредненный) акцент является не искажением английского/американского, а полноценным вариантом произношения. И, в общем-то, у них есть аргумент: число англоязычных индийцев превышает число каких-нибудь австралийцев.

Вот пусть там у себя в индии и считают.
