talk verb intrans. 1. Have or exercise the power of speech; communicate or exange thoughts, feeling, information, etc., by speaking; have a discussion, converse, (with a person); speak, utter words, say things, (to a person).
Examples: D.Barnes He felt that he could talk to her, tell her anything. C.P.Snow I've always wanted to have the chance to talk with you.
...
talk (v.)
... To talk to someone can mean either “to address that person” or “to admonish him or her.” To talk with someone means simply “to discuss” or “to give someone a message,” as in We talked with her about her plans. Compare SPEAK TO.
speak to, speak with (vv.)
In most uses these combinations are interchangeable: I spoke to [with] her for only a few minutes. In some instances, however, there may be semantic distinctions: Speak to sounds a bit more one-sided, perhaps, than speak with, which may imply more give and take. And in one sense speak to suggests strongly that the speech is to be both one-sided and admonitory: I guess I must speak to him [about his behavior]. Talk works much the same way, except that you speak to [on the subject of] an issue far more often than you talk to an issue.
