Liability insurance, посоветуйте!

Post by svetik_s »

Liability Insurance? :pain1:
Спасибочки заранее!!! :)

"...Contractor, know thy insurance.

It's obvious that a judgment against you could bankrupt your business. What's not so obvious is the difference between general liability, which independent consultants tend to have, and professional liability, which independent consultants often eschew. Professional liability insurance is more commonly known as errors and omissions insurance, or E&O.

General liability insurance covers claims of bodily injury or property damage to others as you conduct your business. If you accidentally knock over a server, or if someone trips over your briefcase in an aisle, that comes under general liability. E&O in IT covers claims of financial loss resulting from, primarily, programming errors or failure to perform. If, for instance, a software implementation or upgrade you're making to a server should crash the server, causing lost information and resulting in lost sales, that loss would be covered by E&O

CCBsure's Schleicher says that often IT clients require their independent consultants to "carry a large amount of general liability -- $5 million -- but don't require any E&O." This could set up contractors for a double whammy if they're ever sued for programming errors, for example, by their client, only to discover that the general liability insurance the client required them to carry didn't protect them.

"E&O," Schleicher continues, "is catastrophic insurance. It's the difference between having your business continue on, or having your business go under." You don't need it often, but when you do, you really do. Adds Scheich, "I think no matter how careful you are, you can end up with disagreements with clients, and it's probably important in those cases to have some kind of malpractice insurance. But that insurance is not cheap, and you have to weigh your risk and the other things."

Here are a few more tips to consider: If you do purchase both types of insurance, be sure to get them both from the same insurance carrier. This will eliminate the possibility of your defense attorney having to come after you for his fees because each insurance company expects the other to pick up the tab. It's best to get your insurance program from a company that understands the IT arena. "
