Hi, Can you pls answer this question. If a man lived in sate A, woman in sate B, the couple get married and moves to state C. they want to file fed taxes jointly. Now what about state taxes? They will file for state C together. They have to pay part yr resident taxes in states A and B. If husband pays only for his income in state A, can he still file married jointly, same as federal? Can you file fed taxes married jointly and state married separately? I know it's confusing, but comes down to that they want to pay state tax only on income earned in that state.
