На мои вопросы - как же пропаганда жесткая в СМи против Сочи - смеются и говорят мне на чистом русском мате (или английском мате, зависит от национальности) куда послать всех етих писателей и правителей.
Продажи билетов в Сочи на Западе с треском провалились безо всякой помощи со стороны СМИ и задолго до того, как о Сочи стали что-то писать, чисто за счет того, что эти игры оказались у черта на рогах, чрезвычайно дороги и неудобны для западных туристов. Я не знаю, о какой пропаганде идет речь. Пропаганды против Сочи нигде нет. Если только не считать пропагандой обсуждения простых людей такого типа:
Can't imagine why it's such a hard sell. I mean we're only talking about crazy expensive airplane tickets, extreme price mark-up hotels no where near the venues, inadequate travel options, cold weather but terrible snow, and the possibility that someone wearing the latest fashion in bomb accessories wondering around cursing infidels. The intolerance, bigotry, and persecution are nice bonus too, right?
With all that to consider....and a lot more.....I'm thinking I'll be watching the curling finals from a warm comfy chair in my own living room.
I was in Sydney in 2000, SLC in 2002, Turin in 2006, Beijing in 2008, Vancouver in 2010 and London in 2012. I make it a point to travel to the Olympics whenever I can. I will not be going to Sochi this year.
The problem with Sochi is primarily the painful process of obtaining a Russian visa. Hotel and other logistics can be come by anywhere at almost any time, but unlike China the process to obtain a visa for Russia is a long, drawn out, beareaucratic nightmare. Not only do you need evidence of travel, you need a letter from a sponsor in that country, interviews and other guarantees. The entire process is aggravating and takes forever and just isn't worth it.
Ok, let's go down our checklist:
1. Inaccessible, Check
2. Full of terrorists, Check
3. Corrupt government, Check
4. Armed soldiers everywhere to harass you,(because everyone knows that terrorists carry signs that say, Hey I'm a terrorist, everyone else has to be screened and pay bribes), Check
5. Spartan (even by Spartan standards) accommodations, Check
6. Crazy prices (probably charge you $500.00 for toilet paper in your shack), Check
7. typical Stalin era "s" hole, Check
8. Travel visa that's almost impossible to get (unless of course you pay for "expediting" and "preferred service" fees) (see #3), Check
I just wonder how they got the IOC to select them? Probably all those 18 year old "Russian Brides" that were sent to pitch Sochi for the games.
