Нелегал, что дальше?
Если я правильно понимаюб, тог существует большая разница в понимании слова "нелегал".
В большинстве случаев INS помещает в эту категорию лиц, незаконно въехавших в США. Как было сказано, я въехал законно, просто пересидел положенный срок, но как ни странно, от этого я не стал нелегалом и, соответственно, не подхожу под всяческие амнистии (если они будут), к тому же очень недолго здесь.

This is true... to some extent. Illegal aliens that entered the US illegally are subject to "exclusion" proceedings, whereas those who entered legally and remained in the US after the expiration of their non-immigrant status are subject to "removal" (deportation) proceedings. The second group has more opportunities to appeal their cases to the EOIR and in federal courts, may apply for suspension of removal, and has some other minor legal advantages over the first group... Does it really make a big difference? I guess it depends on a specific case.
