Tax: Personal Property tax and other questions

Уважаемые приветовцы! Вот, накопилось несколько вопросов в это горячее время - кто чем может [img]images/smiles/icon_wink.gif[/img]

1. В Turbo Tax сказано:
You may deduct a vehicle license or registration fee as an itemized deduction...
But if you live in one of the following states, contact the state authority to verify the amount of tax that is deductible: ...California...

State authority звучит как "На деревню дедушке" Кто-нибудь узнавал? Калифонийцы, поделитесь!

2. А еще Turbo Tax мне "подсказывает":

You may be able to reduce your family's taxes if you gift some of your income-producing assets to family members who are in lower tax rates than you are. This is a good idea when some of your family wealth may eventually be intended for your family members anyway.
In most cases, you can make a gift of up to $10,000 a year to each individual without having to pay gift tax. If you're married, you and your spouse can combine your total annual tax-free gift allowance, for a total of $20,000, even if the property is owned by only one spouse. By putting this money into a savings account or other investment account for your family member, he or she would then pay the income tax on the earnings instead of you.
Not only will you save at least a small amount on your family's overall income tax bill, you may also save the gift and estate taxes on property that you ultimately intend for your family.

Естественно подумалось, что деньги, посылаемые родным в Россию, могут помочь списать налоги - но публикации IRS ничего не прояснили. Подскажите!

3. Еще меня очень удивил тот факт, что штату Калифорния мы должны в 3 раза (!) больше, чем federal tax. Сама все делала (в прошлом году получили refund), все публикации старалась читать - как-то странно.

4. И еще один "философский" вопрос меня мучает, не нашла пока нигде разъяснений. 6 месяцев муж работал один (т.е. я и ребенок сидели на шее), потом я тоже пошла работать - с точки зрения налогов ситуация изменилась. А с точки зрения W-2s и Turbo-Tax (Intuit) как будто мы оба работали весь год. Как-то несправедливо - или я чего-то не понимаю. Да и когда я начала работать, муж переделал W-4 и стал платить ок.30% налогов - а все равно должны гос-ву ок.$2000 (а в 1999 году естественно был большой refund). Хотя возможно, что с меня слишком мало налогов снимали в 2000...
Разъясните, please!

Спасибо, Petrovich! Только у меня получились Standard dedustions, и этот tax не влияет.
Да, если кому не поздно - недавно узнала, что Summer Day Camp (но не overnight!) является Child Day Care и помогает в деле уменьшения налогов, только нужно узнать TaxID or EID.

А как все-таки с моими остальными вопросиками, я ведь мучаюсь, люди добрые, поможите ;-
