NYC где селиться.

Post by B@sil »

Times Square.

Check Morningside Heights. This area located above Upper West Side (between 96st and 106st) and not far from Columbia University. You can find studio apartment there for this price. But don't expect doorman, gym, etc.

That area is not much different fro Upper West Side, but a little bit cheaper. You can also try Long Island City in Queens (first 3-4 stops on 7 train in Queens), Astoria (last 4-5 stops of N,W train in Queens) or Brooklyn Heights in Brooklyn- 2,3 express line stops here. But I don't think that apartments there will be much cheaper-especially Brooklyn Heights. Everything else doesn't fit in "<40 min communte" category.

P.S. You can also check Clinton (Hells Kitchen) West of Times Square. That area has many walk-in studio apartments in this price range.

Hasbrouck Heights.

Hoboken. You can find an apartment for 1500 and you will be able to get to Times Sq. in 40 minutes or less. As an added bonus, you will save on New York city income taxes (3%).

I don't know about Hasbrouch Heights. But I don't think 25 minutes is realistic, especially during rush hour. It takes at least 25 minutes just to go through the tunnel.

That's pretty close to Jersey City if you know what I mean... How good/safe this neiborghood is?
What about commute to Manhattan? Bus line, subway?

Parts of Jersey City are also safe/nice. Hoboken is very nice and safe.

There is a bus that goes to Manhattan Port Authority Termninal. (42 and 8 ). Right next to Times Sq. In the morning the bus is every 5 minutes and it takes about 30 minutes to get there (although sometimes maybe longer).

Path trains run 24 hours. You can take it to 33rd and 6th and then walk or take subway one stop. Either option gets you there in 40 minutes.
