Quick, Fast, Rapid?

Не подскажет ли уважаемый народ, какая разница в английском языке между quick, fast, rapid? В частности: "we need to do it fast", "we need to do it quickly", "we need to do it in a rapid way".

Quick - быстро, с нуля. The car is quick off the line from a standstill due to its low gearing.
Fast - быстро, но в процессе. The car becomes seriously fast once you wind up the engine beyond its inherent turbo lag.
Rapid - быстро, при повторяющемся действии. When hydraulic lifters experience oil starvation they tap in a rapid succession.

Мое чувство английского языка не позволяет чувствовать почти никаких различий между тремя вариантами.

Вообще говоря, "quick" имеет больше отношения к времени, которое занимает процесс ( "quickly understand smth." ), "fast" - к скорости процесса ( "fast car/plane" ), "rapid" почти синоним "fast".

fast, rapid, swift, fleet, speedy, quick, hasty, expeditious. These adjectives refer to something marked by great speed. Fast and rapid are often used interchangeably, though fast is more often applied to the person or thing in motion, and rapid, to the activity or movement involved: a fast runner; rapid strides. Swift suggests smoothness and sureness of movement (a swift current), and fleet, lightness of movement (The cheetah is the fleetest of animals). Speedy refers to velocity (a speedy train) or to promptness or hurry (a speedy resolution to the problem). Quick most often applies to what takes little time or to what is prompt: a quick snack; your quick reaction. Hasty implies hurried action (a hasty visit) and often a lack of care or thought (regretted the hasty decision). Expeditious suggests rapid efficiency: sent the package by the most expeditious means.

Применительно к машинам - машина с маленькой 0-60 time - "'quick", а машина с большой top speed - "fast".

quick - слово не техническое, а больше разговорное, типа русского "быстренько", "поскорее".

fast - техническое, когда речь идет о скорости как таковой (физика, техника, другие науки и прочее) - I drive very fast (но сравните: I need to get there quickly)

rapid = very fast

В частности: "we need to do it fast", "we need to do it quickly", "we need to do it in a rapid way".

в большинстве ситуаций больше всего подходит:
we need to do it quickly

Да, именно так написанно в моем электронном словаре. Вы с ним однако можете и не соглашаться. Только не надо говорить, что я не знаю, что там написано. :nono#:

я тоже хотел вчера эту цитату написать но ведь это (особо примеры) о прилагательных. А вопрос, насколько я понимаю, был о наречиях...
