Правильно ли составлено Cover Letter - поймет ли правильно работодатель мой статус и мои намерения?
Подскажите что является лишним а что следует добавить в резюме...

Далее интересует вопрос - какой уровень англ языка нужен для собеседования и насколько это важно для работодателя? Уровень англ у меня нормальный но все же не безупречный и нужна практика.

I'm Yun Dmitry. I'm from Russian Federation. I have the BSc degree in Physics (physics-informatics area) and now finishing the first year of two on MS degree. I have some experience in ASP.NET development. I understand that one not so big but I ready to study all the time.
I'm searching for a job now in USA. I'm going to arrive in USA this summer (starting with beginning of June, ending in October). More exact period could be known after getting visa. Dmitry Yun, про cover letter. Народ тут письма начинает с того, зачем пишут, а лирику оставляет на попозже. То есть,

Gentlemen,

From your company's website (newpaper article, employment agency - нужное подставить) I learned about your need of the Widget Maker (кто вы там по профессии). I am very interested in working for you and believe that my education and work experience are close match to what you seek.

А дальше расписываете, что вы такого делали, что они бы вас захотели. И в конце добавляете, что будете follow up with the phone call или еще одной е-маил.

ваши намерения понятны, вы ищете работу с визой. Но выставлять это как главную задачу потенциальному работодателю, по меньшей мере, глупо - сначала обьясните ему, почему он вас должен хотеть. Кстати, ваш четыре месяца больше всего подходят для internship, и многие компании гораздо охотнее пойдут на такое, чем на temporary employment. И никогда не обсуждайте salary в письме, unless the company requires it. Здесь это плохой тон. Ну, и не просите их обязательно ответить - таких желающих, как вы, море, так что, удачи.
В общем, в начальном абзаце подставьте internship, "where I can employ my skills in......" и вперед. Почитайте в разделе, как писать правильно cover letter (формат, змызл), там много ссылок. Про резюме - личную информацию (date of birth, marital status и т.д.) тут не пишут, равно как и ICQ:). Про работы - у вас что, за год работ 5 поменялось???? Такое тут ооооооочень не любят. Оформите это как-то иначе, как проекты, что ли...
В общем, сходите в раздел резюме и посмотрите там побольше.

1. Резюме и covel letter составлено неграмотно. Совсем не выдержан формат, в котором они должны быть. Но это приходит с опытом, так что у Вас все впереди.

2. Salary в Cover Letter не обсуждают.

3. Вопросы типа:
Do you have appropriate job position in your company?
If you are interested in a guy who can work by J-1 visa only 4 months please let me know....
Could you please send me a reply in any case...

не допустимы, также как и отдельные неформальные слова и выражения, типа "guy", "By the way", "some experience".

4. Вся Personal Information в резюме лишняя. Нужен только адрес и телефон. Адрес желательно американский.

5. Ошибки в словах:

physicotechnical (нету такого слова)

6. В описании каждой работы каждое предложение должно начинаться с глагола в прошедшем времени. А не как у Вас:

Я конечно же все срочно переделаю..

Послав 250 резюме - получил очень мало ответов, более-менее стоящих - единицы . Теперь начало проясняться почему...Но как вы правильно, thinker, заметил все приходит с опытом . Это мое 2-е резюме и составлением резюме я отдельно не занимался, просто переделал резюме одного знакомого программиста под себя. Но значительно лучше чем было мое 1-е резюме .
Но как говорится все познается в сравнении. В России у меня не возникало особых проблем с этим резюме, возможно потому что наши люди как то проще на это смотрят, а может быть это зависит от размера фирмы и уровня ответственности на работе.

Ну все иду смотреть ветку про то как писать резюме.

Про работы - у вас что, за год работ 5 поменялось????

Первую работу поменял из-за того что мало платили.
Со второй к моему стыду меня уволили за то что задержал проект (ну и я думаю квалификации немножко не хватило и не стремился компенсировать это большим временем - в целом недостаточно ответственно подошел к работе, о чем очень сожалею).
Третья была летом - далеко (40км!) от места проживания. Ну в целом я не хотел на ней долго задерживаться - это скорее была подработка летом. Ну к тому это было не совсем то (разработка статичных сайтов) что я хотел.
Четвертая вот это была настоящая работа (компания в свое время занимала 5-е место на российском IT-рынке) - очень квалифицированный коллектив, большая команда но у них кризис в менеджменте был. Сама компания развалилась на несколько кусочков в одном из которых мне довелось работать. Причины ухода - небольшая зп с невозможностью совмещать ее с учебой в магистратуре. К тому же мне не нравилось отношение к персоналу как к дешевой рабочей силе. К тому же перспектив особых я не видел. После моего ухода в начале января 2004 года через месяц-два ушел почти весь коллектив с которым я работал над проектом.
Моя текущая работа связана с тестингом но платят терпимо. Но конечном итоге не то что хотелось бы мне заниматься долгое время. А интересует ASPX+C# . Но вот доучусь семестр - видно будет.

Кстати в связи с этим меня интересует такой вопрос - что лучше работать в одной фирме или иметь опыт работы в нескольких фирмах. Оно понятно что не мы выбираем но все-таки какие преимущества и недостатки вы в этом видите. В конечном итоге хотелось бы конечно работать в крупной фирме, в хорошем коллективе профессионалов, с хорошей зп, желательно надалеко от места проживания, иметь не так много стрессов на работе. Но ведь это идеал. А в жизни получается иначе.

Смотря для кого лучше.

Если Вы имеете ввиду компанию, которая Вас нанимает, то для нее луч-ше, чтобы Вы не очень часто меняли работы. Хорошо, когда вы задерживаетесь на каждой работе лет 5 или больше. Компания, в этом случае, видит Вас как надежного работника, а не того, кто меняет работы как перчатки.

Если Вы имеете ввиду себя лично как работника, то тут действует правило: Есть только один способ, чтобы тебе НАМНОГО повысили зарплату: найти другую работу! Отсюда и вывод: те, кто долго работают на одном месте, имеют минимальный рост в зарплате и в должности. Конечно, есть куча исключений, но в целом так. И потом, опыт работы в нескольkих компания на нескольких должностях однозначно будет только плюсом для любого профессионала.

p.s. Кстати средний срок работы американцев на одной работе 2.5 года, если мне не изменяет память.

Я совершенно не IT, поэтому насчет content ничего не могу сказать, но тут другие моменты важны:
1) Очень много summary. Summary - это короткое, самое важное о вас, и не обязательно ваши технические возможности (это показывается в Skills или в Projects), а, скорее, личные качества (exellent analytical abilities, superb team building skills и т.д.), которые ниоткуда больше ясны не будут. Компания не робота нанимает, им нужен человек, который fit или не fit.
Тем более, что ваши Skills практически идентичны вашей Summary.
2) Good skills are not good enough ))). В смысле, зачем им нанимать только good, если они могут нанять exellent? Уберите good, пишите exellent, здесь это норма
2) Мой вопрос насчет 5 работ был, в общем, риторический. Понимаете, здесь таких скакунов очень не любят, очень, говорит о том, что вы неуживчивый или переборчивый или еще что-то в этом роде, в общем, это плохо. Я не знаю, как вам это сгладить, имхо, лучше дырки в employement, чем вот такое. Имхо, опять же - делать functional resume, а не chronological.
4) Objective поставьте, чтоб не мучиться, пишите должность, на коротую претендуете (может меняться от компании к компании)
5) Когда вы пишите про очередную должность, соблюдите формат что-то типа:

Или наоборот, сначала должность, потом компания, город, страна/штат, с какого месяца/года по какой месяц/год
А потом уже перечисляйте, что вы делали. Уберите I (Я), все функции начинаются с глагола, предложений типа "this is ...bla, bla, bla..." в описании функций быть не может, перефразируйте типа "Lead banner exchange sistem project, including design administration (не сокращайте!), affiliate and advertiser interfaces" Я понятия не имею, имеет ли смысл то, что я написала, но я надеюсь, вы поняли, что именно вам нужно сделать. Удачи, это резюме намного лучше, чем первое, нужно еще немножко поработать.

Где то на привете же была пара очень хороших топиков про резюме. Надо поискать и прочитать...
Описание работ, особенно последних, должно быть очень подробным и очень конкретным. Что именно делали, какие тулзы использовали. При этом оно не должно быть сухим техническим отчетом. Резюме должно ответить на вопрос для работодателя - чем вы лучше других кандидатов с близким наборов скилзов. Постарайтесь найти изюминки в последних работах и аккуратно их описать...

Cover Letter начинается за здравие, а кончается за упокой. В нем отсутствует концовка. Посмотрите примеры и как правильно написать конец. У меня под рукой пока нет образца, а то бы дал.

Во-первых, все что под рубрикой "PS" пишется в самом конце письма, а не перед подписью, как у Вас.

Во-вторых, предложение неверно грамматически. Правильный вариант:

В третьих, это можно вообще опустить, чтобы не спугнуть работодателей. Или перефразировать вот в такой вариант:
