c'mon, b-school years are supposed to be some of the best - why not enjoy them? (esp. if you are paying big bucks to be there anyway)
I enjoyed mine tremendously

That's very interesting to hear. The reason I'm interested in Columbia's finance department is their unorthodox approach to teaching securities analysis (Graham-Dodd Institute). Could those guys be an exception?

this approach has been around for the last 60 years, it is taught in all 200+ finance programs around the country...
there is no secret sauce in Columbia - they use the same books as all other schools elsewhere - we checked

Don't go too hard on me, I'm just starting my research into b-schools. I was under impression that value investing is generally overlooked at other top b-schools, while more academic theories (portfolio theory, efficient markets, beta, etc.) are granted stronger emphasis.

I guess it's a one thing to mention it over a couple of class sessions, and a whole different thing to have an Institute dedicated to it, with several courses. Besides, that's where it all started.

I do know about Damodaran and been all over his site, but I wouldn't call him a value-monger. Not like Greenblat of CSB

if we just look at CBS' "placement by function" stats, where do the majority of people go?
Consulting/I-banking/Sales& Trading - all in to the tune of 50% of the class
Research is 9%

And let me tell you that the Research crowd is VERY different from the I-banking/consulting/trading one
why? because they don't make as much

нет, у меня не такая уж большая выборка, надежной статистики не получится
но думаю что картина приблизительно таже что и в др. b-schools -
~25-30% asians, 2-3% blacks, 15% latino, 50-55% whites

А по какои специальности ВО? Если по нормальнои инженерно-техническои,
можно поступать на M.S./Ph.D и никаких $$ не нужно.
Хор. программистскии опыт будет оценен при приеме и продвижении во многих grad. programs (не только CS).

в том и дело - ВО достаточно странное, инженер лесотехник, водный транспорт леса хотя оно и инженерное и техническое.

как это никаких $$ не нужно? в смысле бесплатности самой учебы? а где такое может бывает- как такое искать?

т.е. правильно ли я понимаю что мне надо претендовать на то что образование уровня баколавра у меня есть - и есть практический опыт - и делать из этого M. S.?

Вот именно. Попадание в top 5% в любой профессии/специальности гарантирует работу. Вон top 5% real estate агентов поди не жалуются. Или тех же top 5% sales пиплов

Не верится. Неужели в школах типа Columbia] and Wharton дают прям таки скидки? Можно ссылочку подкинуть? И чем кроме [pizza] может подработать студент который первый год в стране и ограничен 20-ю часами [on campus] по своей визе?
