Mutual Funds - это не "способ сохранить Ваши деньги". Для сохранения существуют saving account, money-market account, Certificate of Deposit в банках.
Mutual Funds - это один из способов вложить ваши деньги и заработать на этом. Вложения всегда связаны с риском. Степень риска зависит от типа фонда, от того, куда именно его manager вкладывает ваши деньги. Но это - целая отдельная наука. В коротком разговоре на Форуме её всю не раскрыть. Многочасовой курс investing здесь прочесть не получится. Задавайте конкретные вопросы, попробую ответить.

Which domestic aggressive growth mutual funds can you recommend? Also, have you looked at any funds, specializing in Europe (except Eastern Europe and Russia)? Do you have your favorites?

It does not make any sense to talk about someone’s favorite mutual fund. There are more than 8000 different funds and each has its own tracking history. Also, every fund has its own risk factor. Nobody can predict what will happen to the market tomorrow. Therefore, nobody can recommend you a specific mutual fund. Would you ask someone what lottery ticket will win next time?

Mutual Funds - one of the popular topics of conversation among my friends (along with mortgages, kindergartens and catholic schools )) ). We don't really take each other's recommendations for granted, without any additional research, but what for to reinvent the wheel? 8000 mutual funds - too much to look at for one person not doing it for a living. Why not to share information?

I suggest you go to www.vanguard.com
and read their Education page. You will
get a lot of information, especially
about investing in index funds.

Index funds are my personal choice for
the long run.

My personal favorites:

Janus
Janus Growth & Income
Janus Mercury
American Cent. Vista
American Cent. Ultra Inv.

All of the above are no-load funds, with relatively low initial purchase requirements ($2500). I also talk a lot to the people from their management teams and like their investment style. All the funds are quite aggressive, even though they are described as Large Cap Growth in their prospectuses. Again, these are my personal preferences.

Vanguard (as a family of funds) is also a very good choice, since they have a gread variety of funds that one can switch in and out of, based on the market situation. Though their Aggressive Growth Fund is not one of my favorites...

Again, read carefully Vladimir-CA's post. Investing in funds is NOT ABOUT THE PRESERVATION OF CAPITAL.

Если Вы держали этот фонд в 1998 - 1999, то разве Вас огорчит потеря каких-то 5% из gained 200?
